American baseball player Lawrence Peter Berra was born in St. Louis, Missouri in 1925. His friend gave him the nickname “Yogi Berra.” His immigrant parents taught him to always work hard. With three older brothers, he had many of opportunities to play sports, and he eventually became one of the most famous catchers in baseball history. Imagine you are young Yogi, and write a journal entry about a day in your life.

Edna St. Vincent Millay (1892-1950) earned a college scholarship by writing poetry, and later won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry in 1923. One of her poems, “The Spring and the Fall,” begins with these four lines:

In the spring of the year, in the spring of the year, I walked the road beside my dear. The trees were black where the bark was wet. I see them yet, in the spring of the year.
