Deborah Burton

Lesson Designer

Deborah Burton is an attorney, wife, and homeschool mom—now with two graduates. She worked as an attorney before homeschooling, and her love of God, young people, homeschooling, writing, and the law intersect in her lessons at SchoolhouseTeachers.com, and in her company, Homeschool Court. In her Schoolhouse Teachers lessons, she provides unique lessons for middle school and high school that enable students to learn about the American judicial system and a variety of legal topics—with fun mock trial lessons included. Her desire is to provide interesting and engaging lessons, usually with an awareness of current events and evolving legal topics, while preparing them for their future roles as educated voters and citizens.

The curriculum sold at Homeschool Court provides a homeschool parent or co-op teacher everything needed to offer high quality instruction in the court system and the law and then prepare students for and enable them to experience a mock trial. This curriculum is designed to be used with interested students from late elementary to high school, and no legal experience is required of the parent or teacher.

Mock Trial: The vision for this class is that students’ knowledge of God and His world will grow through study of the legal system. Their reading comprehension, logic/critical thinking, persuasive argumentation, writing, research, and public speaking skills will be strengthened. A mock trial class teaches important information about the judicial branch of our government, as well as honing these skills every person needs.
