Getting Started with Our Music Theory I and II Homeschool Curriculum

Whether a student has been playing an instrument for years or has never played at all, the Music Theory I and II homeschool curriculum provides the foundation for students of all ages to understand the basic concepts behind the composition of music.

Music Theory I

Music Theory I lessons give written instruction and activities for elementary and secondary level homeschool students focused on notes, tempo, rests, dynamics, and more. The student progresses through many of the basics necessary to be able to read and interpret music, with suggested examples to listen to in order to understand what is being taught. These music theory homeschool lessons should be completed in order, as they build upon sequential concepts.

Music Theory II

Music Theory II homeschool lessons continue the instruction which began in Music Theory I to help students extend their understanding of reading notes and the notations that give specific meaning to those notes. The homeschool music student progresses to melodic and harmonic intervals, meters, time signatures, key signatures, and more. These music theory lessons should be followed in order, as they build upon sequential concepts, and should follow Music Theory I.

Go to Class Lessons and download the lesson plan and the first lesson. Start with the Day 1 reading assignment. Follow the instructions each day on the lesson plan and check them off when completed.
