Dr. Roger W. Sanders was Core Academy’s vice president and professor of botany until he passed into eternity in 2018. Dr. Sanders was a graduate of the College of the Ozarks, the University of Michigan, and the University of Texas. He worked for many years as a professional botanist and later as a research professor at Bryan College. Dr. Sanders and his wife homeschooled their two children. Core Academy has graciously continued to make the Earth Science course created by Dr. Sanders available to SchoolhouseTeachers.com members.

Course by Dr. Roger

Earth science is “the study of the structure and the processes of the world around us,” from the center of the earth to the most distant star. The four main areas of earth science are geology, oceanography, meteorology, and astronomy. This course will explore a number of areas of earth science, including volcanology; seismology; paleontology; sedimentology; the biology, geology, physics, and chemistry of the oceans; the science of climate and weather; the atmosphere; the history of astronomy; telescopes and mapping the night sky; the sun; the planets; rockets and artificial satellites; origins of the universe; and plate tectonics.
