More About Our Geology Homeschool Science Course
Unit One: Geology – Rocks and Minerals
Patrick Nurre is the teacher on this wonderful trip. For those who love rocks and minerals, this Geology homeschool science course is a natural link to an amazing world. Homeschool students study rocks from a young-earth perspective, which means Mr. Nurre believes what the Bible has to say about earth history and a global flood that all took place in the last 6,000 years.
Most homeschool geology lessons consist of a short AV presentation, followed by a worksheet.
Although having rock and mineral samples available is recommended to get the most out of this homeschool geology study, it is not necessary. A kit of the basic rock types and a kit of the rock-forming minerals would be sufficient. Kits may be ordered from Mr. Nurre by contacting him at northwestexpedition@msn.com. He can also create a special kit to complete a partial collection the homeschool student already owns. Please contact him for pricing for these fill-in kits.
This first Geology homeschool science unit lasts 17 weeks, including the final comprehensive exam. It begins with a study of Creation and builds to include rock-forming minerals, identifying rocks by their minerals, types of rocks, and minerals and their families.
Unit Two: The Geology of Our National Parks
Mr. Nurre’s family has had wonderful times in the summer visiting many of the U.S. national parks. These geology lessons are the second course section for the Geology course. Homeschool students of various ages can explore the geology of these parks and how the geology ties into the days of Noah—when, in his 600th year, on the seventeenth day of the second month, the fountains of the great deep opened (Genesis 7:11). U.S. national parks—as do many of the unique landforms of the world—preserve much of the evidence of this singular event.
So buckle up and have some fun looking at these national treasures. Be sure to let Mr. Nurre know questions the student may have following their own visits to these parks. He can be reached at northwestexpedition@msn.com. Students begin this homeschool science study with his all-time favorite, Yellowstone National Park.
In addition, students may take a look at the information on the trip Mr. Nurre’s family takes to Yellowstone every August by visiting their website at NorthwestRockAndFossil.com.
If students are interested in pursuing more study on some of the U.S. national parks, check out Mr. Nurre’s kits that cover some of the national parks and topics that he introduces in this Geology homeschool science study, including:
- Yellowstone National Park
- Yosemite National Park
- Grand Canyon National Park
