Every child is different. Writing comes naturally to some, while others have to work at it. Some are ready to work on fine motor skills early, and some mature later. Methods that work well for one child will be a struggle for another. Find what resonates with your own family and emphasize those techniques.

The goal of this course is to provide basic instruction, along with printable pages that can be reused as needed. Each unit uses the same color blocks to introduce correct letter formation. It uses colors instead of right and left to make the directions more visual and less prone to letter reversals. It also includes some memory hooks in the images and descriptions to help cement the letter formation process, which can be helpful to students with learning struggles.

Use the units in order, or pick and choose what your student needs to work on. Letters that are formed in a similar fashion build on each other. For instance, the letter e is formed by using the letter c plus one more stroke, so it is best to teach the letter c first. Each letter’s instruction page will refer to the previous letter it is based on, if any.

Note: The lessons will be most helpful to the student if they are printed in color. If only a black and white printer is available, have the student trace the letters in red (right) or green (left) to retain the correct visual emphasis.
