More About Our Exploring Poetry with Notebooking Homeschool Poetry Curriculum
Notebooking is a method where children decide how they would like to respond to what they have learned. Notebooking allows students creative expression of ideas, rather than rote repetitions of what they have read, and is a type of narration from Charlotte Mason’s instructional methods.
Notebooking allows students choices in their learning, giving them the power to engage their brains in their learning processes. Students who have choice are more involved in their schoolwork and have more interest in completing it well. Students who Notebook remember information better because they have found ways to make the information their own. Creativity flows from children more freely with notebooking, as students think on ideas or beautiful words as their inspiration for creating. The first several poetry lessons in this homeschool poetry curriculum are examples of Guided Notebooking, giving students ideas of how to notebook with poetry. After students practice with these ideas, they will be ready to Notebook with less guidance. The pages that follow the Guided Notebooking will allow students to choose how they respond to the poetry.
