How to Use This Course

This is a great collection of morning work for kindergarteners designed to keep little hands busy and active minds engaged. It reviews numerous math and language arts topics such as counting, alphabetical order, colors, number words, beginning and ending sounds, handwriting practice, syllables, tally marks, number lines, skip counting, comparisons, and much more.

Course Introduction

Independent Morning Work for Kinders is a complete year of morning work for kindergarten! It contains 186 student pages designed to be a strong, daily review of foundational skills and knowledge that can be completed independently. It concentrates on both language arts and math.

Semester One will ask students to . . .

  • Write all letters of the alphabet
  • Find and identify letters in the alphabet
  • Match upper and lowercase letters
  • Write all letters of the alphabet
  • Put letter in ABC order
  • Match beginning sounds
  • Identify numbers 1-10
  • Count 1-10
  • Identify numbers that come before and after another number
  • Identify a number that is 1 more than or 1 less than another number
  • Identify and draw two-dimensional shapes: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, hexagon
  • Work with colors
  • Color by code
  • Number words (1-10) will also be introduced

Semester Two will ask students to . . .

Language Arts

  • Identify beginning and ending sounds
  • Write the missing letters (first or last) of CVC words
  • Recognize and write pre-primer and primer sight words
  • Identify if a picture shows a person, place, or thing (grammar – noun identification)
  • Trace, read, and copy simple sentences
  • Identify the number of syllables in a word
  • Identify rhyming words
  • Identify consonants and vowels
  • Complete letter mazes
  • Complete simple sight word, word searches
  • Copy sentences adding first-word capitalization and ending punctuation

Math

  • Work with ten blocks, tally marks, and ten frames
  • Review numbers 1-10 and work with numbers 11-20
  • Use a number line 0-20
  • Identify numbers that come before and after, more than/less than
  • Write number words 1-10
  • Complete simple addition up to 10 using number blocks and pictures
  • Complete simple addition sentences
  • Complete simple patterns (using shapes, letters, and numbers)
  • Skip count by 2’s and 5’s up to 20
  • Compare – more/less, most/least
  • Identify positions – on/in/beside/behind
  • Count pennies up to $0.10
