More About Our Homeschool Language Arts Schoolhouse Grammar Curriculum
Each of the Schoolhouse Grammar grades can be used as a full year of grammar or as additional practice and review.
Schoolhouse Grammar: First Grade
NEW for 2024 – this level is now available as an interactive course on interactive.SchoolhouseTeachers.com.
Our Schoolhouse Grammar: First Grade curriculum is written from a language development perspective, meaning each concept is first introduced through auditory and exploratory activities (receptive), and then the student is encouraged to apply the skill through a combination of verbal, hands-on, and paper/pencil exercises.
Plenty of review is built in, using a spiral approach to encourage mastery of skills with meaningful contexts. Extension activities challenge the student to take concepts a step further and tap into the child’s overall cognitive and literacy development. Paper/pencil and reading tasks are included but can easily be adapted if necessary without losing the learning opportunities available for a concept. The lesson plan follows a schedule of 3 days per week for 36 weeks.
Schoolhouse Grammar: Second Grade
Our Schoolhouse Grammar: Second Grade curriculum follows the deductive approach. This is a teacher-center approach that saves time in planning, allowing more time for learning and practicing. Each lesson provides a definition and example for teachers to present and an exercise for students to complete. The lesson plan follows a schedule of 3 days per week for 28 weeks.
Schoolhouse Grammar: Third Grade
Our Schoolhouse Grammar: Third Grade curriculum covers the same topics and lessons as our Schoolhouse Grammar: Fourth Grade curriculum, yet has different exercises for students to complete. Each lesson provides a definition, example, and exercises for grammar topics, such as capitalization, synonyms, antonyms, periods, commas, contractions, parts of speech, diagramming sentences, tricky words, and more. The lesson plan follows a schedule of 5 days per week for 25 weeks.
